As we jump into February, we have a lot to look forward to at Common People Yoga! 2/2/22 was our six-month anniversary of being open… our 1/2 birthday! 6 months went by so fast! It has been fun getting to know so many new faces and to continue to be reminded every day of the beauty and honor of human connection.
We will be feeling the love at Common People Yoga this Valentine’s weekend. Krystal will be offering partner yoga on Saturday 2/12 and Sunday 2/13 from 12-2 pm. This is a fun way to explore supported postures with a partner. Kate will be offering a couple’s foot massage class on Sunday, 2/13, at 5:30 pm. It is an excellent opportunity to show someone you care about them while also getting a foot massage yourself!
Thank you to all that have applied for the teacher training program. We will be contacting individuals very soon with our final details and confirmation. We look forward to learning along with you!
Mark your calendars for two special events in March. Saturday, March 12th, Michael Steinke will be offering Sound Bath Submersion, a healing sound session. Saturday, March 19th, join Cassandra Pangburn for her Spring Equinox Restorative Session, a restorative yoga session, live harpist music accompaniment, and tea ceremony.
Lastly, I want to share my gratitude for the support you show our little studio. Opening a small business in the middle of a pandemic seems like a long shot, but you have brought this dream to life. Cheers to 6 months. Cheers to this community. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Many blessings,
Lorissa

Our Book of the Month (available in our lending library) One Simple Thing: A New Look at the Science of Yoga and How It Can Transform Your Life By Eddie Stern "Drawing on modern neuroscience, ancient wisdom, and decades of practice and teaching, Eddie Stern reveals how what we do―from diet to chanting, from postures to meditation, from ethical practices to breathing techniques―affects who we become, and how a steady routine of activities and attitudes can transform our bodies, our brain functions, our emotions, and our experience of life."
TEACHER SPOTLIGHT

Tammy Karschnia "I used to think that Yoga was easy and not really a workout so I never tried it. Then on
happenstance, I took a yoga class because my friend invited me. I said fine, I’ll do it. Next thing I know, I was taking another class, then another and so on. Before I knew it I was in love with it! While attending classes around Salem and at Indigo I thought to myself how awesome would it be to share my love for Yoga with others. I felt Yoga was something everyone should have in their life to help calm their minds and nourish their bodies. But that never quite came to fruition. In the meantime, another friend introduced me to Hot Yoga and again I was not interested in that. The thought of excruciating heat, humidity and exercise created such an aversion for me, I never wanted to try it. But peer pressure happened, so I tried it, loved it and couldn’t get enough of it. Fast forward a couple years and a major life change which made me feel empowered, and I finally had the strength to sign up for Dr. Zohra’s Teacher Training. I completed my training in November 2020 and was one of the three teachers teaching the Community Class on Sundays. I feel that integrating Hot Yoga into a regular yoga practice is something beneficial for everyone’s mind, body and soul. I look forward to sharing my love of Yoga with others! Tammy is a mom of two grown married daughters, a new grandmother, and a stepmom to two daughters and two sons ranging from ages 9 to 16. Her husband Paul is incredibly supportive of her. And she has a Labradoodle named Summit and a Lhasa Apso named Winnie."
